What does orange makeup communicate about me?

yeh, so i wore orange eyeshadow the other day to match my top. it wasn't really all that bright, or bold or heavy. it wasn't over the top at all. but my mom and someone else that i really respect both said i looked trashy. like a tramp. which hurt cuz that ain't the kind of girl i am. they've also made similar comments about my orange/coral shades of nail polish. i'm 17 & i've been wearing makeup for like 1 1/2 yrs, so i really don't see what the issue with a little orange eyeshadow is. i mean, the first time i wear it i get called a tramp? what's up with that? what kind of message does orange eyeshadow send about me?
