Will my dog deter a potential rapist/burglar from breaking in?

I live in an apartment. There is a serial rapist breaking into women's homes in my area. I have german shepherd, about 75 lbs. Will a dog deter a rapist from trying come into my home. I own a weapon and have mace but I would like the person to not even attempt to come in. Are rapists deterred by dogs?
