Obsessed with girl for months and done nothing about it?

im a 16 year old boy and ive been infatuated with this girl for several months and theres been no real communication between us because someone told her i liked her and that made it awkward and i never wanted to talk to her after that so now i feel it may be too late to start talking to her and im very shy and not to smooth with the ladies... im not ugly but have a low self esteem and thus no confidence and ya i talk to like no girl. what should i do
